The hype around artificial intelligence has reached unprecedented levels over the past couple of years. Predictions of autonomous robots or massive job displacement are common, but the advancement of this technology is more likely to increase workplace surveillance. AI will reinforce the historical trend of depriving Black workers of their autonomy and compelling them to produce more while receiving a smaller share of the economic pie. It is important to unionize, organize, and advocate for provisions to limit the intrusiveness of AI technology.
